William Rarita

William Rarita ( born March 21, 1907July 8, 1999 ) was an American theoretical physicist who dealt with nuclear physics and elementary particle physics.

Rarita taught at Brooklyn College, where he retired in 1996. He was in the theoretical department at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and was also a visiting scientist at CERN.

With Julian Schwinger 1941, he formulated the Rarita -Schwinger equation for spin 3/2 fermions. With Herman Feshbach, he worked in nuclear physics.

He was a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
