William Reed (musician)

William Reed ( born September 9, 1859 in Montreal, † November 2, 1945 in Quebec ) was a Canadian organist and composer.

Reed was organ student of Romain- Octave Pelletier and Dominique Ducharme. From 1878, he studied at Keble College, Oxford. He seemed then to 1913 as organist at various churches in Montreal ( 1888-99 ), Toronto ( 1899-1900 ) and Quebec ( 1900 ). In 1901, he was together with his student Henri Gagnon guest organist at the Pan - American Exposition in Buffalo. After 1913, he concentrated on his compositions and has written articles for The Etude, among other magazines.

Reed wrote in addition to smaller choral works and Anthems several cantatas and organ works. A total of about fifty works appeared in print.
