William Reed (politician)

William Reed ( * June 6, 1776 in Marblehead, Essex County, Massachusetts, † February 18, 1837 ) was an American politician. Between 1811 and 1815 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Reed received only a limited education and worked in retail. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Federalist Party. In the congressional elections of 1810 he was in the second electoral district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Benjamin Pickman on March 4, 1811. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1815 two legislative sessions. These were shaped by the events of the British -American War of 1812.

Later William Reed was a board member of the Andover Theological Seminary, and Curator of Dartmouth College in Hanover (New Hampshire). Otherwise, he again worked in retail. He died on 18 February 1837 in his hometown of Marblehead.
