William Rose (screenwriter)

William Rose ( born December 12, 1914 in Jefferson City, Missouri, † February 10, 1987 in Jersey ) was an American screenwriter.

Life

William Rose came during his military service in the Canadian Army in the Second World War to the UK and began after the war, his work as a screenwriter. For the Ealing Studios he wrote several comedies, but was in other genres as at home. At the beginning of the 60s he returned to the United States and worked several times with director Stanley Kramer together. For the screenplay for the comedy Guess Who's Coming to Dinner 1968 he received an Oscar. Previously, he had been nominated three times for an Oscar.

The screenplay for The Ladykillers in 1955 brought him a British Academy Film Award in the category Best -defunct British writer a. Rose stated always, he had dreamed the entire plot of The Ladykillers and would then only have to add details. The Writers Guild of America honored him in 1973 with the Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement. In 1967 he was honored with a Writers Guild of America Award.
