William Royer

William Howard Royer (* April 11, 1920 in Jerome, Jerome County, Idaho, † April 8, 2013 in Redwood City, California ) was an American politician. Between 1979 and 1981 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Royer attended to 1938, Sequoia High School in Redwood City, California. Then he studied until 1941 at the Santa Clara University and then to 1943 at Oklahoma A & M College, which later became Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Between 1943 and 1945 he was during the Second World War in the Air Corps of the U.S. Army. After the war he worked as a realtor. He also began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. Between 1950 and 1966 he sat in the City Council of Redwood City. From 1950 to 1960 he was also mayor of this place. Between 1972 and 1979 he was a member of the county council in San Mateo County.

After the assassination of the deputy Leo J. Ryan Royer was at the due election for the eleventh seat of California as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on April 3, 1979. As he defeated Democrat Tom Lantos in 1980, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1981. In the years 1981 and 1982, Royer was a regional representative of the U.S. Department of Transportation in his homeland. He spent his life in Redwood City, where he died in early April 2013.
