William S. Gray (film editor)

William Sylvester Gray ( born August 26, 1896 in Manhattan, New York City, New York; † 16 December 1946 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American editor who was once nominated for an Oscar for Best Editing.

Life

Gray began his career as an editor in the film industry in Hollywood in 1929 with the thriller The Voice of the City by and with Willard Mack and Robert Ames and Sylvia Field in other major roles. He worked until 1938 at the production of a total of 35 films.

At the Academy Awards in 1937 Gray was nominated for the Oscar for Best Editing, and indeed for the musical film The Great Ziegfeld ( The Great Ziegfeld, 1936) by Robert Z. Leonard with William Powell Jr. in the title role as Florenz Ziegfeld, and Luise Rainer and Myrna Loy in other major roles.
