William Stanley West

William Stanley West ( * August 23, 1849 in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia, † December 22, 1914 in Valdosta, Georgia ) was an American politician (Democratic Party), who represented the state of Georgia in the U.S. Senate.

William West attended schools in Lookout Mountain ( Tennessee) and Penfield, before he himself was a teacher. In 1876, he received his law degree from the Law School of Mercer University, after which he was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Statesville.

1892 West was voted for the Democratic Party in the House of Representatives from Georgia, where he served until 1901. In that year he moved into the Senate of the State, where he remained until 1906; 1905-1906 he was its president.

After the death of Augustus O. Bacon in February 1914 West was determined to succeed him in the U.S. Senate. He took the vacant place on 2 March 1914 to 3 November of the same year and retired again from the parliament chamber after an official successor had been elected with Thomas W. Hardwick. During his brief time in the Senate he was chairman of the Committee on issues of the Post Ministry ( Committee on Expenditures in the Post Office Department).

West returned to Georgia back to there again carry out its activities as a planter, but died only a month after his retirement from the Senate.
