William Talman (architect)

William Talman (* 1650, † 1719) was an English architect and contemporary of Christopher Wren.

Talman designed the facades of its chalets with pilasters, architraves and friezes, and thus exerted a large influence on the design of English country houses. In the royal building authority he entered the studio of Christopher Wren and probably also revised the design for Hampton Court Palace. He was one of the most important English country house architect and joined in his work the French with the Italian Baroque. His influence was surpassed only by the architect John Vanbrugh, who created the famous Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard.
