William Thayer Tutt

William Thayer Tutt ( born March 2, 1912 in Coronado, California, † 24 March 1989) was an American professional ice hockey official.

Career

William Thayer Tutt settled in Colorado Springs and made sure that the first final tournament of the National Collegiate Athletic Association could be carried out in 1948. This took place in the first ten years each in the Broadmoor Hotel, Colorado Springs. In the following years he succeeded in 1959 to bring the Soviet national ice hockey team for the first time in the United States. He was also responsible for hosting the World Ice Hockey Championship 1962 in Colorado Springs. From 1966 to 1969 he was president of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. From 1972 to 1986 he was president of the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States ( AHAUS ). In 1973, he was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame, and in 1978 in the Hockey Hall of Fame. In 1978 he was also awarded the Lester Patrick Trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the United States.

His second wife William Thayer Tutt was married to figure skater Yvonne Sherman. He was responsible for the Figure Skating Federation of USA was relocated to Colorado Springs, where several world championships were conducted. For this reason, he was inducted into the Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
