William Theodore Heard

William Theodore Cardinal Heard ( born February 24, 1884 in Edinburgh, Scotland, † September 16, 1973 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

William Theodore Heard completed his studies at Oxford and Rome from with doctorates in Catholic theology and canon law. He was a seminarian at the Pontifical English College in Rome and received in 1918 received the sacrament of Holy Orders. It was founded in 1921 by further studies parish priest in the diocese of Southwark. In 1927 he received the appointment as auditor of the Roman Rota. In addition, he served as confessor to the students of the English College in Rome.

In 1958, William Theodore Heard Dean of the Roman Rota, a year later it took Pope John XXIII. as cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia San Teodoro in the College of Cardinals. On April 5, 1962, William Theodore Heard of Pope John XXIII. appointed Titular Archbishop per hac vice of Feradi Maius and received from him a bishop. The Scot took part in the years 1962 to 1965 at the Second Vatican Council. On May 18, 1970, he was charged while maintaining its title Diakonia cardinal priest per hac vice. He died on 16 September 1973 in Rome and was in the chapel of the English College interred in the cemetery " Campo Verano ".
