William W. Arnold

William Wright Arnold ( born October 14, 1877 in Oblong, Crawford County, Illinois, † November 23, 1957 in Robinson, Illinois) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1923 and 1935 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Arnold attended the common schools and the Austin College, Effingham. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Illinois in Urbana and his 1901 was admitted to the bar he began in Robinson to work in this profession. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1922, Arnold was the 23rd electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Edwin B. Brooks on March 4, 1923. After six re- elections he could remain until his resignation on 16 September 1935 at the Congress. Since 1933, the first of the New Deal legislation of the Federal Government there were passed under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Arnold's resignation was after his appointment as a member of the federal appeals authority for tax matters (United States Board of Tax Appeals ). He stayed there between 1935 and the retirement on 30 June 1950. Moreover, he managed two large farms. William Arnold was at that time also a director of several banks in his home. He died on November 23, 1957 in Robinson.
