William Walsh (Maryland)

William Walsh ( * May 11, 1828 in Tullamore, Ireland, † May 17 1892 in Cumberland, Maryland ) was an American politician. Between 1875 and 1879 he represented the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Walsh first attended a school in his Irish homeland. In 1842 he came to the United States, where he settled in Virginia. He continued his education at Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg continued. After a subsequent law degree in 1850 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began in 1852 to work in Cumberland in this profession. Later he hit as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In 1867 he was a delegate at a meeting on the revision of the Constitution of Maryland.

In the congressional elections of 1874 Walsh was in the sixth constituency of his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Lloyd Lowndes on March 4, 1875. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1879 two legislative sessions. Since 1877 he was chairman of the committee to revise the legislation. In 1878 he gave up another candidacy.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives William Walsh practiced as a lawyer again. He died on 17 May 1892 in Cumberland, where he was also buried.
