The Williams FW22 was the Formula 1 racing car of Williams for the 2000 season. The engine came after two years of development and preparation time for the first time by BMW. The tires turned, like last year, the Japanese tire manufacturer Bridgestone.

The vehicle was unveiled to the public in Munich on 10 January 2000. The first test took place two weeks later on January 24 at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

The successor of the vehicle for the 2001 season was the Williams FW23.

Engine and chassis

The FW22 was the successor of the FW21, which was still powered by a Supertec engine. For the FW22 of BMW-E41/4-Motor was provided, which at 17,250 min-1 made ​​607 kW ( ≈ 820 bhp). The konstrurierte at Williams chassis came from Patrick Head, in collaboration with Gavin Fisher and Geoff Willis.

Paint and sponsorship

Because of the intensive partnership with BMW the paintwork of the FW22 compared to the previous vehicle was completely changed. The basic colors were now dark blue and white in particular. Dark blue were the front and rear wings and larger areas on the side boxes. New main sponsor was the computer manufacturer Compaq. Other sponsors stickers were Intel, Allianz, Nortel Networks, BR, Veltins, Castrol and Reuters.

Driver

Ralf Schumacher stayed with Williams. His new team-mate was the first time launching in Formula 1, Jenson Button, who joined the team as the successor of Alessandro Zanardi. In the run button had prevailed in the shootout against Bruno Junqueira. Test and reserve driver was the German Jörg Müller.

Season 2000

Right at the start of the season in Australia, Schumacher was third. There were a few points in the rankings during the season. From my own power the car could not go for the win; Ferrari and McLaren given the season. In the Belgian Grand Prix Schumacher scored again in third place. This placement he repeated for the last time at the Grand Prix of Italy. With the FW22 Williams had to complain a total of 13 failures during the season, nine of them due to technical problems.

Although Williams at the end of the season with 36 points had only one point more than in 1999, the team achieved third place in the Constructors' Championship.
