Willis Ware

Goods studied electrical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania ( Moore School) with a bachelor's degree in 1941 and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a master's degree in 1942. Afterwards it was until 1946 in the development of radar at Hazeltine Electronics Corporation. In 1946 he was one of the members of the team that led by John von Neumann at the Institute for Advanced Study, an early computer built (IAS computer). In 1951 he received his doctorate at Princeton University. He remained until 1951 at the IAS project and was 1951/52, at North American Aviation. In 1952 he went to the Rand Corporation, where he remained for the rest of his career. In 1992, he went into retirement.

In 1993 he received the Computer Pioneer Award in 1984 and the IEEE Centennial Medal. He was a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery and the IEEE.
