Willy Ascherl

Willy Ascherl ( born January 7, 1902 in Fuerth, † August 8, 1929 in Meissen ) was a German football player. The striker won with his club SpVgg Fürth in 1926, the German football championship and southern Germany in the years 1923, 1924 and 1926, three times the Federal Cup.

Career

Ascherl came from the youth soccer association. He then put a stopover at the local competition TV Fürth 1860 and played in rounds 1920/21 and 1921/22, in the county league northern Bavaria against 1 FC Nuremberg and SpVgg Fuerth. In December 1922 he returned to the Ronhof. The small, fast and very tricky attacker was mostly on the left side storm in use, where he was employed as a connector as well as a left winger. He celebrated in 1923, the Süddeutsche championship and a place in the final round of the German soccer championship. In his first game in the finals he could on May 13, 1923 in a 4-0 win against the Breslauer Sportfreunde distinguished as two time scorer. Already on 25 February 1923, he had won with the selection of southern Germany in the final in Frankfurt German Cup with 2-1 goals against West Germany. The attack of the South played in the cast with Georg Wunderlich (Stuttgarter Kickers ) and a quintet of Spielvereinigung: Andreas Franz, Leonhard Seiderer, Ascherl, Karl Auer. As half links he scored the goal for 2-0. In the following round, 1923/24, it passed in southern Germany for runners, with a 4-2 victory against Northern Germany to defend their title in the Federal Cup where he scored two goals on 17 February 1924, on 21 April he made his debut against the international match in Amsterdam the Netherlands in the German national soccer team. The combination of Nuremberg and Fürth won the game 1-0 gates. Ascherl played on the left wing and struck in the 26th minute, the edge that could transform his team-mate Karl Auer for the decisive goal.

In the round of 1925/26, he was again runner-up in southern Germany Fürth. Fürth were in the finals of the German Championship and moved to participate success against FC Viktoria forestry, Breslau and SC 08 in the semifinals with a 3-1 against Holstein Kiel in the final one. On June 13, they beat with a 4-1 victory Hertha BSC, bringing the German championship after Fürth. Ascherl ended with his goal in the 68th minute the scoring. The Federal Cup he was in the regional selection of southern Germany successfully as scorer in the games on 6 September and 3 October 1925 ( semifinal ) against West Germany ( 7:2 ) and Brandenburg (7:0) in use. The final took place just one day (October 4 ) after the marked semi-final victory against Brandenburg in Leipzig against Central Germany instead and Ascherl could not participate due to injury. The 2-1 final win against Germany stormed means for him in the Nuremberg - Fürth combination of his team-mate George Kiessling.

After the third runner-up in southern Germany, in 1926/27, followed in the final round of the German Cup games against Kickers 1900 Berlin ( 9:0 ) and on 29 May 1927 in Leipzig in front of 25,000 spectators in the stadium VfB the " repetition" of previous year final against Hertha BSC. With two goals from Willi Kirsei the team of John Sobeck prevailed 2-1 in, and thus threw the defending champions out of the competition. The dreaded attack of the game series association with Karl Auer, Andreas Franz, Leonhard Seiderer, Ascherl and Georg Kiessling brought in the second half, no more hits to conditions.

In the series in 1927/28 Ascherl came with Fürth in the south- finals on the third place. From 1923 to 1927 he has completed eight finals matches with the Ronhof Elf and scored seven goals in the process. After eight league games with four goals of trained merchant moved in November 1928 MSV 08 Meissen.

In Meissen he was not allowed to play at first, as the DFB suspected that Ascherl moved for financial reasons from Fürth to Meissen, which at that time was not allowed. Ascherl thus turning MSV 08 Meissen first as coach before he was active for Meissen on the ball later in the district league eastern Saxony. But unfortunately only for a short time, Willy Ascherl died in 1929 at the age of 27 years due to an intestinal rupture.
