Willy Hess (composer)

Willy Hess ( born October 12, 1906 in Winterthur, † May 9, 1997 ) was a Swiss musicologist and composer.

Hess studied at the Zurich Conservatory in composition, music theory and piano, as well as musicology at the Universities of Zurich and Berlin. Since 1931, he lived as a freelance music writer and composer in his hometown. He also worked from 1942 to 1971 as a bassoonist in Winterthur City Orchestra. In 1951, he published 14 supplementary volumes to Beethoven Complete Edition. His compositions is quite traditional tonality committed. It includes several sonatas - including for bassoon and small orchestra, for viola and piano, viola and bassoon, viola solo, for flute and cello and flute and piano. The estate of Willy Hess is located in the Central Library Zurich.
