Willy Puchner

Willy Puchner ( born March 15, 1952 in Mistelbach, Lower Austria ) is an Austrian photographer, artist, illustrator and author.

Life

Willy Puchner grew up in the Lower Austrian district capital Mistelbach up as the son of a photographer couple. From 1967 to 1974 he attended the Graphical Federal Education and Research Institute in Vienna, Department of Photography. After that, he was a teacher for two years at the same school. Since 1978 freelance photographer, illustrator, artist and author. From 1983 to 1988 he studied philosophy, journalism, history and sociology. In 1988 he approved with a thesis in social philosophy with the title " private photography." Since 1989, regular participation in the Wiener Zeitung.

Willy Puchner became famous with the project " The longing of the Penguins ". He traveled with the polyester Penguin figures Joe & Sally for four years by the sea and in the desert, to New York, Sydney, Beijing and Paris, Venice, Tokyo, Honolulu and Cairo to hold them there in the picture. Freddy Langer wrote about this project in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung: " Before famous sights he had them pose as if they were tourists - and photographed them. So he created the most beautiful travel photo album of the twentieth century: ' The desire of the Penguins '. ( FAZ, 8 March 2001)

Its subscribed and handwritten ( Travel ) material books, published as "Diary of Nature" (2001) and " pictorial Wanderlust " (2006), are " one restless Measuring the World ," or maybe the desire to his own place in the coordinate system of the globe to find. (see also "Book Illustration" )

Willy Puchner worked a lot with old people, the projects " The 90 -year-old ", " 100 -year ", "Life history and photography " and "Love in old age" there arose "Dialogue with age ".

Publications in journals

Puchner since 1989 working as a freelance editor for the Wiener Zeitung. He also had publications in the journals extra leaf, Universe, butterflies, concreteness, Mare, Stern, GEO, Life (USA), Corriere della Sera (Italy ), Marco Polo ( Japan) and many others.

In weekly travel journal of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published Puchner alone until December 2013 so far 39 full-page texts, drawings and collages entitled Puchners color theory.
