Wim Rijsbergen

Wilhelmus " Wim " Rijsbergen ( born January 18, 1952 in Leiden) is a former Dutch football player.

The defender started his professional career in 1970 Rijsbergen the PEC Zwolle and played one year later at Feyenoord Rotterdam. At Feyenoord he became the Dutch national team coach Rinus Michels and Bond nominated him in the squad for the World Cup 1974 in Germany. During the tournament he won a regular place and also belonged to the starting line-up in the World Cup final against Germany. Rijsbergen remained until 1978 and then went to the USA where he played together with Franz Beckenbauer at New York Cosmos. Before this change, he belonged to the squad of the Netherlands at the World Cup 1978 in Argentina. However, he only played in the first round and lost his place to the young central defender Ernie Brandts. His professional career he finished again in 1986 in the Netherlands at FC Utrecht.

For the Dutch national team he has played a total of 28 matches.

After his playing career, he worked as a football coach for various clubs. As an assistant coach Leo Beenhakker, he participated in the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany with Trinidad and Tobago. He then took over the national coaching job after Beenhakker's departure, but was replaced in the meantime by Francisco Maturana. From 2011 to 2012, he was coach of the Indonesian national soccer team.
