Wim Ruska

Willem ( Wim ) Ruska ( born August 29, 1940 in Amsterdam, Holland ) is a former Dutch judoka and two-time Olympic champion.

He started his judo career at the age of 20 years and traveled to Japan to be taught and trained by the Japanese masters.

At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, he won two gold medals in the heavyweight division and in the open class. He is the only judoka, who won two gold medals at the same games. After the games, he has resigned.

In the Judo World Championships he won twice the gold medal in the heavyweight (1967 in Salt Lake City and 1971 in Ludwigshafen) and won the silver medal in 1969 in Mexico City. In addition, he won in his career seven European championships and ten Dutch title.

Ruska in 2001 suffered a severe stroke, which affected him physically.
