Wimbledon station

Wimbledon is a major station south-west of the center of London, in the London Borough of Merton. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 3 and also serves as the terminus of the London Underground and Tramlink tram one line each. In the year 2011 there were 11.75 million subway passengers the station, added 14.539 million passengers by rail.

The zehngleisige plant located on the South Western Main Line, the main railway line from Waterloo to the South West of England, and is the hub of other routes. Five tracks are used by the traveling non-stop express trains as well as suburban services of the companies South West Trains and First Capital Connect. Located on the northwest side of the four-track terminus of a branch line of the District Line towards Earl 's Court tram to Croydon ends at a dead-end track on the southeast side, directly next to it the mall center court

History

The opening of the station took place on 21 May 1838 when the London and South Western Railway (L & SWR ) went into operation on the first part of their regular route. The London, Brighton and South Coast Railway opened on 22 October 1855, the line to Croydon. Part of this route was used from 1803 to 1846 by the Surrey Iron Railway, the world's first horse-drawn railway, which served by public transport. On 1 October 1868, the branch distance of Tooting, Merton & Wimbledon Railway ( TM & WR) followed by Tooting.

The L & SWR opened on 3 June 1889, the distance to Putney Bridge and leased them from the first day to the Metropolitan District Railway, the predecessor company of the District Line. The new route, the recent suburban railway line in London, was opened on 5 January 1930. On 2 June 1997 Railtrack closed the distance towards Croydon to rebuild this for the tram traffic. The opening of Tramlink finally took place on 30 May 2000.
