Wimmelburg

Wimmelburg is a municipality west of Eisleben in the district of Mansfeld- South Harz in Saxony- Anhalt. The municipality belongs to the municipality Mansfeld basic Helbra.

Geography

Noteworthy is the location of the village, in the valley of evil seven between projected nature spoil heaps from former copper mining times, including the Luther Halden in gold ground, where the father of the reformer Martin Luther 1508/ 09 two smelters as Hüttemeister operation.

Not far from Wimmelburg is located approximately 100 meters depth with the Wimmelburger Schlotte the longest known gypsum cave in Germany (previously traveled and measured 2838 meters long, probably about 5000 feet long - not publicly available ).

History

Some archaeological finds suggest multiple and emigration of the population. Eg There were a stone slab grave (New Stone Age ), found a living pit ( Bronze Age ) and a cover shell ( Iron Age ). At that time, many cave settlements existed in the territory of today's community as well as on the Hüneburg on which Friedrich Berg and near the birch sheep.

Wimmelburg first time was mentioned in a document from 1038. In that year the Saxon Count Palatine Siegfried was buried in the " Wigmodeburg " on April 25. In the early Middle Ages the village belonged to the county of Mansfeld. Hoyer of Mansfeld, the father of I. Hoyer of Mansfeld and progenitor of the counts of Mansfeld, it acquired when he married Christina, daughter of Count Siegfried II of Weimar- Orlamünde.

Wimmelburg is very close to Eisleben, the former royal capital of the county. After the extinction of the Counts of Mansfeld- Bornstedt the Office Wimmelburg came to Saxony. After Napoleon's defeat of Prussia ( 1806/ 07) Wimmelburg came under French administration, and from 1807 it belonged briefly to the Kingdom of Westphalia. After the fall of Napoleon and the reorganization of the countries on the Congress of Vienna (1815 ) Wimmelburg belonged to the province of Saxony in Prussia, 1946-1952 and since 1990 to Saxony- Anhalt.

Wigmodeburg and monastery Wimmelburg

From the Wigmodeburg forth the name of the village derives. The castle stood on the plateau of Friedrich Berg's to today's sports field, as is evident from a document of 1121. The castle was converted 1060-1070 by the Countess Christina von Mansfeld, which the Count Hoyer of Mansfeld woman in a convent. The monastery, dedicated to Saint Cyriacus Wimmelburg was at this point by the year 1121 and was moved to the valley. 1526 was secularized by the Counts of Mansfeld- Mittelort and Hinterort and converted into an office. The monastery church was converted into a Protestant church. A major fire on January 10th, 1680 destroyed a large part of the church building, which was repaired in the sequence only partially and ill-informed. As part of the present church of St. Cyriacus are from the originally large and stately monastery church today only the main chorus with the corresponding apse, the northern chancel with apse, the transept and the northern transept, this, however, is only as a ruin. The other monastery buildings, if they had not already been destroyed by fire, disappeared in the 18th century, when a large mansion was built in its place, which was used in the former GDR as agricultural production cooperative, and today dominates the system.

Policy

Honorary Mayor is the non-partisan Andreas prong. He was first elected on 18 June 2000 and confirmed in April 2007 in his office.

Club Life

The local club life is particularly focused on sports and animals. In addition to sports clubs FSV Green-White Wimmelburg ( soccer) and TTV Wimmelburg (table tennis) consist of the Association of German Shepherd Dogs, the Kaninchenzuchtverein and hunting society.
