Wincanton

Wincanton is a small town in the district of South Somerset the county of Somerset in the UK. It has 4943 inhabitants. and is located on the A303, the main route between London and the South West.

History

In the Domesday Book the town is listed as Wincaleton, in the will of Richard Bekyn 1540 as Wyncaunton and in the files of the " Feoffees of the Fair and Market " 1693 Winecaunton. It was not until 1724 continued by the present notation. In the Middle Ages, the city had a market, but only gained market rights in 1556. In 1707 the town was burned down. In the Napoleonic Wars, the city had a POW camp.

In April 2009, Terry Pratchett inaugurated several streets in the new neighborhood corrugated one, bear the street name from Ankh -Morpork, so Peach Pie Road and Treacle Mine Road.
