Wind Hellas

Wind Hellas is a Greek mobile operator.

Development

Mid-1992 acquired the Italian STET - ( Società Finanziaria Telefonica SpA) a GSM license to build a mobile network in Greece for 30 billion drachmas (about 88 million euros ) and founded the company Telestet.

On June 29, 1993, the first mobile phone call in Greece taught in 1998 went Telestet first Greek telecommunications company on the NASDAQ stock exchange in New York City and the Amsterdam Stock Market.

In early 2004, Telestet taken over by Telecom Italia Mobile, a mobile subsidiary of Telecom Italia. On February 8, 2004 Hellas Telestet was renamed TIM Hellas.

Due to massive financial problems of Telecom Italia, a share of 80.87 percent of TIM International NV, which also TIM Hellas belonged, was sold on 4 April 2005 for 1,114 million euros in investment companies Apax Partners and Texas Pacific Group.

In April 2007, TIM Hellas was then sold to Weather Investments, the holding company of the Egyptian Naguib Sawiris telecommunications. In May 2007, the activities of the Greek mobile operator TIM Hellas and Q- Telecom were merged. As of June 5, 2007 TIM Hellas and Q- operate Telecom and Wind Hellas. After renaming of Hellas Telestet in TIM Hellas on 8 February 2004, was the second renaming the wireless service provider.

After failed initiatives by financial investors Wind Hellas was taken over by creditors in 2010.
