Windom is a small town ( with a status of "City" ) and the administrative seat of Cottonwood County in the central south-west of the U.S. State of Minnesota. In 2010, Windom had 4646 inhabitants.
Geography
Windom is on the plateau of the Coteau des Prairies, which extends over parts of South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. The city is located on both sides of the upper Des Moines River, a right tributary of the Mississippi. Windom is located at 43 ° 52'06 " north latitude and 95 ° 07'07 " west longitude. History
The place Windom in 1871 created by the railway engineer Beach AL at a range of former Sioux City and St. Paul Railroad. Was named the place after William Windom (1827-1891), a U_s Senator and two-time United States Treasury Secretary.
In the same year a post office was established. Similarly, a hardware store, a saloon, two bakeries, a grocery store, a meat market, a print shop, a hotel and a general store were built. In 1875 the town was incorporated as " Village of Windom ".
In 1974, Windom was awarded as all incorporated communities in Minnesota, the status "City".
