Window manager

A window manager (german window manager ) is a program in window systems, has the mission to offer the user programs features such as Minimize, Zoom and closing of windows. In this case, the graphical user interface may be a client-server system (such as the X Window System ) have as base, but this is not mandatory.

Often the window manager determines the title bar and the frame of the window. The content of the window is created, however, usually regardless of using shared libraries which facilitate the programmers of GUIs work and also provide for a uniform look of the programs. Most of these libraries are then extended to uniform design, taskbar with applets, electronic paper baskets as well as uniform menus, which marks the step towards the desktop environment.
