Windsor County, Vermont
Windsor County is a county located in the state of Vermont in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Woodstock.
Geography
The County is bordered on the east by New Hampshire, and has an area of 2527 square kilometers, of which 12 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Orange County, Grafton County ( New Hampshire), Sullivan County ( New Hampshire), Windham County, Bennington County, Rutland County, and Addison County
History
Windsor County was formed in February 1781 from parts of the then defunct Cumberland County. During the Second World War Zuckmayer worked as an exile a farm in Windsor County.
Demographic data
1900-1990
According to the census of 2000, there were 57 418 people in the county. There were 24 162 households, and 15,729 families. The population density was 23 people per square kilometer. Ethnically the population was composed of 97.72 % White, 0.33 % African American, 0.23 % Native American, 0.63 % Asian, 0.03 % Pacific Islander residents from the 0.15 % percent from other ethnic groups; 0.91% were descended from two or more races. 0.82 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 24 162 households out of which 29.20 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 52.70 % were married couples living together, 9.00% had a female householder with no husband. 34.90 % were non-families. 28.10 % of all households and 11.10% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.86.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 23.30 % under the age of 18, 5.90 % from 18 to 24, 27.30 % from 25 to 44 years, 27.60% between 45 and 64 years and 15.80 % were 65 years old or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 94.80 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.10 males.
The median income for a household was $ 40,688, and the median income for a family was $ 49,002. Males had a median income of $ 32,648, women $ 25,696. The per capita income was $ 22,369. 7.70 % of the population and 5.20% of families are below the poverty line. 7.50 % of those under age 18 and 7.60 % were 65 years or older.
