Winston Bogarde

Winston Bogarde ( born October 22, 1970 in Rotterdam ) is a former Dutch football player.

Career

His career began in 1988 with SIA. From 1989 to 1991 he played for Excelsior Rotterdam before moving to local rivals Sparta Rotterdam. In 1994 he signed for Ajax Amsterdam. With Ajax ( under van Gaal ), he won the 1995 UEFA Champions League and was twice Dutch masters. After a brief stint at AC Milan he ended in December 1997 with a move to Barcelona again in van Gaal. With Barça he was two times Spanish champion.

For the season 2000/ 01 he moved to Chelsea, where he signed a four-year. Shortly after he signed this treaty, was Chelsea manager Gianluca Vialli, who had brought Bogarde to London, dismissed and replaced by Claudio Ranieri. Under Ranieri Bogarde was very rarely used, most recently in November 2002. Bogarde had to train some with the youth team of Chelsea, but he decided to wait out his well-paid contract until 2004, for which he had a lot of criticism. In November 2005, Bogarde ended his career.

For the Dutch national team, he played 20 games from 1995 to 2000. He made his debut on 13 December 1995 in the 2-0 victory over Ireland.
