Winter Palace of the Bogd Khan

The Winter Palace of Bogd Khan is in the south of Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia, on a road to Zaisan.

The palace, now a museum, was built in 1905 according to the plans of a Russian architect who was placed under the direct command of Tsar Nicholas II. This is the only one remaining of the original four residences of the eighth Jebtsundamba Khutukhtu, which was later proclaimed Bogd Khan, ruler of Mongolia.

The complex includes six temples. Much of the possession of the Bogd Khan is issued as his throne, his bed, his art collection and his stuffed animals, his elaborately decorated ceremonial Ger and a pair of ceremonial boots that were given to the Khan of the Russian Tsar Nicholas II.
