Geography

Border demarcation

The border Winterhudes almost completely follows the freight bypass Bahn Hamburg ( in the north and east), the Osterbekkanal ( in the south) and the Alster ( to the west). The only major exception is the curve in the Southeast: Here bends the boundary of the goods shunting path first in the Hellbrookstraße and at the end to Osterbekkanal in the Saarland Strasse.

Division

Winterhude, population according to the fourth largest district of Hamburg (2010), can be divided into four different zones:

Winterhude South ( Outer Alster, Muhlenkamp, Gertigstraße, Barmbeker street, south city park ) This area is significantly influenced by the villa development located in nearby Alster. The Barmbeker road in an easterly direction can be viewed as a boundary. This opens up around the Schinkelplatz a classic multi-dwelling block development with houses from the period around the turn of the century. The center of the southern Winterhudes form the area around the mill Kamp, with its many shops and Gertigstraße, with many pubs and restaurants.

Winterhude North (winter Marktplatz, Alsterdorfer Street, Carl- Cohn- road, northerly city park ) The northern Winterhude opens up to the north of Winterhuder marketplace. The business center contains the marketplace itself to the five bank branches are located, as well as the Hudtwalckerstraße and the southern Alsterdorfer road that holds many small shops. History

The term Winterhude is in a simple interpretation attributed to an owner named Winter, the syllable - hude means a landing place for boats and barges. A more common presentation assumes that it was a place where the Alster Schiffer pulled their boats for the winter on the shallow Alster meadows on land.

1250 first mentioned, Winterhude fell in the 14th century to the monastery Harvestehude and after the dissolution of the monastery during the Reformation in the city of Hamburg. For centuries a small farming village, Winterhude was opened only in the middle of the 19th century. Were instrumental in Winterhudes Johann Friedrich Bernhard Sierich and south Julius Gertig, a hamburger lottery operators from the Grand Burstah in the north. After two streets were named in Winterhude. 1859 Winterhude was connected to a bridge over the Long train with the Uhlenhorst. But not until the abolition of the Hamburg Torsperre 1861 initiated the recovery Winterhudes. Traffic

The district is served by the metro stations Sierichstraße, Borgweg and Saarlandstraße (U3 ) and Hudtwalckerstraße and Lattenkamp ( U1). A few meters away from the border to Winterhude are also metro stations Alstersdorf and Sengelmannstraße the U1 line, as well as the stations Old Woehr and Rübenkamp the S-Bahn line S1.

In addition, the construction of a subway line U4 was intended for the 1970s, which would pass under the eastern part Winterhudes from north to south. New metro stations should arise on the southern edge of the City North at Borgweg ( switch to U3 ) and on the southern edge of Winterhude near Kamp nail. Personalities

The development Winterhudes is largely due to Johann Friedrich Bernhard Sierich and Julius Gertig.

Johann Friedrich Bernhard Sierich bought and opened up the land to the north Winterhudes, over at Hamburg- Eppendorf. 1838 acquired the goldsmith Sierich one of Winterhuder courtyards. Gradually, another site was bought up to the Alster. His son Adolph opening up this possession and put channels for drainage to. Mostly he let heap up even games. The property currently situated in the area street names have family members of Sierichs out ( Sierichstraße, Mary - Louise Street, Klärchenstraße, Willi road). Julius Gertig became involved in 1857 in the south Winterhudes. The lottery owner bought an old farmstead on Mühlenkamp and built this over the years become a huge tourist cafe from.
