Wipers

Wipers is an American punk band from Portland, Oregon, which was founded in 1977 by guitarist and vocalist Greg Sage. She played with changing line with the dominant musical Greg Sage is the only constant, so that Wipers are more or less a solo project.

Band History

The first album Is This Real? was released in 1979 and reached cult status in the independent scene. The same applies to the two successor Youth Of America and Over The Edge. A greater notoriety Grand they reached when Kurt Cobain described it as one of his main musical influences and with two Nirvana songs (" D -7" and "Return of the Rat " ) from Is This Real? coverte.

While the first three LP releases of short, hard, catchy pieces are (with some exceptions to Youth Of America ) coined the songs are slower, less explosive and heavily infiltrated with guitar solos on their later albums. In 1992, the tribute album Eight Songs For Greg Sage And The Wipers (on vinyl ) and Fourteen Songs For Greg Sage and The Wipers ( CD ) on which, among other things Nirvana, Hole and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth are represented.

Greg Sage today operates also the label Zeno Records in Phoenix (Arizona ).
