WIPO Copyright Treaty

The WIPO Copyright Treaty, short WCT ( WIPO Copyright Treaty of English ) is a 1996 by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), passed in special agreement within the meaning of Article 20 of the Berne Convention; It forms the framework for the adaptation of national copyright laws to the requirements of digital network media.

The protection of computer programs is identified in Article 4, the protection of literary works under the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Art, as amended in 1971. Limitations of that protection - for example, by proprietary ideas - must not significantly affect the normal economic exploitation of copyright- protectable computer programs under Article 10, paragraph 2, as this also applies to technical reference books.
