Wiset Chai Chan District

Amphoe Wiset Chai Chan ( Thai: อำเภอ วิเศษชัยชาญ ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the southwestern part of the province of Ang Thong. The Ang Thong province is located in the central region of Thailand.

Geography

Neighboring districts (from north clockwise): Amphoe Samko the, Pho Thong, Mueang Ang Thong and Pa Mok in Ang Thong province, Amphoe Phak Hai Ayutthaya Province and Amphoe Mueang Suphanburi and Si Prachan the province of Suphanburi.

History

After King Naresuan the Great had close to Don Chedi defeated the Burmese army, he led his troops through today Tambon Phai Cham Sin. He noted the strategic advantage of the Noi River offered as a natural barrier to the Burmese troops. So here he founded the Mueang Wiset Chai Chan.

Later, in the Rattanakosin period, the Noi River silted up more and more, so that he finally was too shallow for water transport. The central Tambon Mueang which was assigned by the then government Bang Kaeo and called Ang Thong. At the same time, the district was downgraded to the Tambon Phai Cham Sin. King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) eventually ruled that the district was changed back to its historical name Wiset Chai Chan. In 1979, the administration building of the district was built at the junction of Pho Phraya Road ( Suphanburi province ) to Tha Rua ( Saraburi province ) in Tambon San Chao Rong Thong.

Management

Amphoe Wiset Chai Chan is divided into 15 tambon ( communes).

There are four small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • San Chao Rong Thong ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ศาล เจ้า โรง ทอง ) covers parts of the tambon San Chao Rong Thong and Phai Cham Sin,
  • Bang Chak ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บาง จัก ) covers parts of the tambon Bang Chak, Khlong Khanak and Si Roi.
  • Huai Khan Laen ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ห้วย คัน แหล น ) consists of the whole Tambon Huai Khan Laen.
  • Tha Chang ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ท่าช้าง ) consists of the whole tambon Tha Chang and parts of the tambon Si Roi.

In addition, there are twelve " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
