Witizla

Vitislav (also Witizla or Utizla ) was a Bohemian prince in the late 9th century, and probably a member of the noble family of the Slavnikiden.

When in the year 895 after the disintegration of the Great Moravian Empire, a delegation of all Bohemian Great ( omnes duces Boemanorum ) the East Frankish king Arnulf of Carinthia in Regensburg paid a visit, led two princes the embassy to: Spytihněv, the son of the first known Přemyslids ruler Bořivoj I. , and Vitislav ( ui utizla ). As one of two representatives of the whole country Vitislav must have been a respected and powerful personality.

The Bohemian historiography for more than one hundred years Vitislav already referred to as the first known members of the Slavnikiden. Bohemia was divided at the end of the 9th century in several spheres of domination. Their number, extent, and boundaries are not precisely known, but two large areas seem to be distinguished: the resulting Přemyslids domain in Central Bohemia and the rule of Slavnikiden. The area, reigned in the Vitislav, but so far could not be detected based on historical writings.
