Witold Rudziński

Witold Rudziński ( born March 14, 1913 in Sebezh; † 29 February 2004 in Warsaw) was a Polish composer.

Rudziński studied at the Conservatory of Vilnius composition with Tadeusz Szeligowski and piano with Stanisław Szpinalski and parallel Slavic philology at the University. He was then in Paris pupil of Nadia Boulanger and Charles Koechlin. From 1939 to 1942 he led a class in music theory at the Conservatory of Vilnius.

From 1945 to 1947 he was a professor at the Conservatory of Łódź, as well as music editor of the publication society Czytenik ( 1945-52 ) and director of the music department of the Ministry of Culture. Until 1957 he was artistic director of the Philharmonic Hall and the Opera of Warsaw, he was also from 1950 to 1957 chief editor of the magazine Musica. After that, he taught at the conservatory in Warsaw.

Rudziński composed, inter alia, seven operas, two symphonies and a symphonic suite, two overtures and symphonic pictures, three piano concertos, chamber music, four oratorios, songs and dance music. He has also written several educational music and musicological writings.
