Oh darling ... not here! is an American comedy film from the year 1963. The screenplay is based on the play The First Wife by Jay Presson Allen.

Action

Bill Austin is an unsuccessful writer whose life circumstances are not very good. His wife Bertie holds but to him and supplied the little family, which also includes daughter Julie. Bills agent Lucinda Ford has news. She can sell Bill's novel to a publisher. It is also planned to make the book a play and later a movie.

Bill convinces his wife that she give up her work. The family moves into an elegant home in Connecticut. While Bill with Lucinda is working on a stage adaptation of his novel, Bertie spends her time with the hard-drinking neighbor Fran Cabrell and their friend Wylie Driberg. When Bill and Lucinda work together longer, accusing him Bertie, that there probably is more in the game than just work. In return, she flirts with the actor Gar Aldrich, who will play on the stage in Bill's piece.

The play is performed on Broadway and is a complete success. But Bertie was not present at the premiere. Bill goes home, to separate yourself from Bertie. When he arrives, even Gar Bill appears throws him out of the house. Bill and Bertie realize that they have remained true to each other and decide to give their marriage another chance.

For the lexicon of international film, the film is a " moderately amusing comedy with some satirical swipes at publicity and stardom. "

Bosley Crowther of The New York Times condemned the screenplay as " banal and pointless ". In addition, the Director is wooden.

Background

The U.S. premiere took place on 28 August 1963. In Germany the film was released on 4 October of the same year in theaters.

For the costumes of the film Edith Head was responsible. Sam Comer and Hal Pereira provided the facilities of the film.
