Wiyot (also Wishosk; wíyat, indigenous name for the delta of the Eel River and a main group of Wyots ) is an extinct, indigenous American language, which belongs to Algischen language family.
This language was formerly spoken by the Wiyot people of the Humboldt Bay in California. The last native speaker, Della Prince, died in 1962. Wiyots Some try to revive this language.
Classification
The Wiyot is grouped with the Yurok Ritwan language family. This together with the Algonquian languages in turn form the Algische language family. While the classification of algischen languages is commonly recognized, the postulation of Ritwan language family is controversial.
