Władysław Komar

Władysław Komar (* April 11, 1940 in Kaunas, † August 17, 1998 at Ostromice north of Przybiernow, West Pomerania ) was a Polish athlete.

Komar was after his Olympic victory in the shot put at the Games in Munich in 1972 one of the most popular athletes of Poland. Equipped with great humor and charisma played about his career out in movies and the theater, took records as a singer and was seen as a commentator of Olympics on the screen. At the European Championships in 1966 and 1971, he had become each others.

In 1998, he died together with the Olympic champion in the pole vault Tadeusz Ślusarski in a car accident when they were on the way back from a sports festival.
