WÅ‚odzimierz Zawadzki

Wlodzimierz Zawadzki ( born September 28, 1967 in Polany, Masovian Voivodeship ) is a former Polish wrestler. In 1996 he became Olympic champion in Greco-Roman featherweight.

Career

Wlodzimierz Zawadzki grew up in his native town, where he played football as a child. Only at the age of 13, he began with the rings. He came to in the Sport Club MZKS Orzel Wierzbica where Marian Osinksi his coach was. After high school he joined the Army and moved to the Sports Club Legia Warsaw CWKS. Throughout his long career he had several coaches, one of which Ksawery Biederman, Bolesław Dubicki and Stanisław Krzesiński that were most important. Very successful was he in 1995. Initially, he won the European Championship in Besancon for the second time European champion featherweight title. He defeated it with Ivan Radev, Usama Aziz, Sweden, Igor Petrenko, Belarus, Mehmet Akif Pirim, Turkey and Sergei Martynov five world-class athletes. At the World Championships in Prague, he defeated among others Artur Alexanian from Germany and Mehmet Akif Pirim again, but lost the final Sergei Martynov just after points and thus became vice - world champion.

At the 1996 European Championships in Budapest Wlodzimierz Zawadzki lost in the semifinal against Grigori Kamuschenko from the Ukraine and he also lost the battle for the bronze medal against EM Mchitar Manukjan from Armenia. He got away with it again on the thankless fourth place. The 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta then saw a well -prepared and self-confidence only as sparkling Wlodzimierz Zawadzki. He dominated all of his opponents clear and won with victories over Igor Petrenko, Usama Aziz, Koba Guliaschwili, Georgia, Grigori Kamuschenko and Juan Luis Maren Delis in superior style the Olympic gold medal.

In 2002, he was then in Moscow again vice-world champion at featherweight. After six wins, inter alia, about Djamel Ainaoui, France, Akaki Chachua and Roberto Monzon of Cuba, he met in the finals on arms Nasarjan, a starting Armenians in Bulgaria, where he was beaten on points. At 37, he then started in Athens in 2004 for the fourth time in the Olympic Games.
