Wojciech Bobowski

Ali Beg Ufqi ( Ali Ufki - or Ufukî - Bey, Albert - or Wojciech Bobowski, Albertus Bobovinus Leopolitanus, * in 1600 in Lwów, † about 1676 in Constantinople Opel ) was a Turkish composer of Polish origin.

Ali Beg Ufqi studied music in Europe before he got into Turkish captivity, and converted to Islam. He then lived as an interpreter, translator and composer at the court of Sultan Murad IV From his earliest known collection of Turkish music comes in European notation ( Mecmua -i Saz ü Söz ). In addition to instrumental and vocal folk music it also contains compositions of the publisher.
