Wojciech Fortuna

Wojciech Fortuna ( born August 6, 1952 in Zakopane ) is a former Polish ski jumper and Olympic champion.

Fortuna began his international career at the Four Hills Tournament 1971/72. He achieved his best finish with the 18th place in Bischofshofen. In the end, he finished in 23rd place in the overall standings. Shortly thereafter, he won at the Olympic Winter Games in 1972 in Sapporo surprising with jumps of 111.0 and 87.5 meters on the large hill. From the normal hill he reached the sixth place. The otherwise rather average Springer could not build on this success then. Fortuna won the first and up to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the only gold medal for Poland at the Olympic Winter Games. In the Four Hills Tournament 1972/73 he could reach his best individual result at a tour with the 10th place in Partenkirchen. At the end, he finished 18th in the overall standings. This power he could not repeat again, so that he ended his ski jumping career after the Four Hills Tournament 1974/75.

He was until 2000, when Adam Malysz as unexpected with a victory in the Four Hills Tournament commenced his career success, as the best Polish ski jumper.
