Wojnicz

Wojnicz is a town in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in powiat Tarnowski, about 70 kilometers from Krakow. The urban and rural community (14 villages ), whose seat is in Wojnicz, lies at the crossroads of Europe Straße 40 Kraków - Przemysl and the Province Road 975 ( droga wojwódzka 975 ) Nowy Sacz - Dąbrowa Countess, a connecting Europe trade route Via Regiaund has about 13.000 inhabitants.

History

For the first time Wojnicz was mentioned in documents in 1217. In 1278 the place is already out then as a city in documents. So the place is one of the oldest cities in south-eastern Poland.

In the Second Northern War, a Polish- Swedish Battle of Wojnicz took place in October 1655.

The city lost with effect from January 1935 its town charter. She received it on 1 January 2007.

As sight is considered the wooden church of St. Leonardo in the 17th century. The coat of arms of the city shows the Martyrdom of Saint Lawrence.
