Woldemar Kernig

Vladimir Mikhailovich Kernig ( German: Woldemar Friedrich Michael Kernig, Russian: .. Владимир Михайлович Керниг, born 16 Junijul / June 28 1840greg in Saint Petersburg, † April 18, 1917 ) was a German physician and neurologist. According to him, the Kernig's sign is named in meningitis.

Vladimir Kernig studied at the University of Dorpat and was there for the students Wachsmuths Adolf ( 1827-1865 ). He received his doctorate in 1864 and was then assistant physician at the Obukhov Hospital in St. Petersburg. In 1865 he was ordinator, a position he held until the end of the century, among others. In 1882 Seedy published an article on the later named after him, stretching character at a meningeal irritation in the " St. Petersburg Medical Weekly ". From 1890 he was chief physician at the Women's Hospital in Obukhov. In addition, he was from 1873 to 1890 physician at the Deaf School in St. Petersburg and from 1881 to 1886 medical teachers of internal medicine at the institutes of the Empress Marya Institutions.
