Woldemar von Seidlitz

Woldemar von Seidlitz ( born June 1, 1850 in Saint Petersburg, † January 12, 1922 in Dresden ) was a German art historian.

Life

From Seidlitz studied economics at Dorpat and Heidelberg, where he also received his doctorate. He then went to Leipzig and studied with art historian Anton Springer art history. After a year Italienaufeinthalt went from Seidlitz after 1878 to Berlin and worked from 1879 to 1884 as an assistant at the Graphic Collection of the Royal Museums. From 1884 lived Seidlitz in Dresden and was carried forward to 1919 forming the General Council of the Royal Collections in Dresden, a function that the Director-General's possible. As a representative of the Minister of State, he was the highest museum officials in Saxony. From Seidlitz was also patron of the arts employed, promoted the Dresden museums with paintings by donations and founded numerous foundations. From Seidlitz died in 1922 and was buried at St. John's Cemetery in Dresden.
