Wolf Schneider

Wolf Schneider ( born May 7, 1925 in Erfurt ) is a German journalist, nonfiction author and language critic.

Life

Wolf Schneider grew up in Berlin. After graduation, he did his military service in the Air Force. After the war he worked as an interpreter for the U.S. Army, then from 1947 at the Munich Neue Zeitung, a newspaper for the U.S. military government; first as a volunteer, then as an editor. From 1950 on, he spent six years as a correspondent for the Associated Press, later head of the newsroom and Washington correspondent for the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

1966, Schneider moved to the magazine Stern, where he first was Managing Editor and Publishing Director from 1969. In 1971 he joined Axel Springer AG to build the news magazine dialogue. The project failed, and he became in 1973 editor of the daily newspaper Die Welt, then Hamburg. Because Schneider had published a critical commentary about the Chilean dictator Pinochet, he aroused the displeasure of Axel Springer and was replaced after just over a year.

Schneider remained " special use " by Springer. In 1979 he was (later Henri Nannen School ) to head the newly founded Hamburg School of Journalism called. He stood up in 1995 at the top of this training center for journalists, contributed in these years to the reputation of the school and made a name for himself as a language teacher and critic.

From 1979 to 1987, 1991 to 1992 Schneider moderated the NDR Talk Show. From May 2009 until 2011, he expressed himself in the video column Speak Schneider! on sueddeutsche.de regular updates on the German language.

Schneider now lives in Starnberg.

Schneider is also one of the critics of gender language, as they have done in his opinion to a " ridiculous Verumständlichung " of the Germans.

Quotes

"I have the feeling to have been very well treated by God. That I fulltime exactly doing now, what makes me fun and what an entire industry asks is already a nice feeling. I've never had as many orders as this year. "
