Wolfgang Abraham

Wolfgang Abraham ( born January 23, 1942 in Osterburg, † February 3, 2013 ) was a German footballer who was active in the GDR. In 1974 he won with 1 FC Magdeburg the European Cup Winners' Cup in the final against AC Milan.

Career

Abraham was a prolific winger, who was also used as Vorstopper. In 1950 he began playing football at the BSG unit Osterburg. In 1958 he went to Magdeburg, where he first played at SC construction Magdeburg, then from 1963 for turbine Magdeburg. He was also team captain. For the season 1965/66 Abraham joined the DDR Oberliga to Lok Stendal, but was, on March 6, 1965 the 17th match day, used only in the second half. It was also his first game in the big leagues. By participating in the final of the East German Football Cup ( fdgb Cup ) 1966 ( 0-1 against Chemie Leipzig ) he reached his first career peak. After 27 games and scored nine goals for Lok Stendal Abraham was commissioned in 1966 to 1 FC Magdeburg, who played at this time in the second-rate DDR -Liga. At the end of the season Abraham rose up with his new team in the league, in which he graduated 1977 196 league games until his retirement and there scored 41 goals. He stood in 1974 in the winning team of the European Cup Winners' Cup (2-0 against AC Milan ). With the 1 FC Magdeburg Abraham was three times GDR champion (1972, 1974, 1975 ) and Cup Winners' Cup twice (1969 to FC Karl- Marx-Stadt 4-0, 1973 against 1 FC Lok Leipzig 3:2 ). In the first Magdeburg championship season he was with 13 hits, of which 7 turned penalty, the best scorer of the team and according to Hans -Jürgen Kreische the second- best in the league.

After his playing career, he was the first FC Magdeburg as a crew chief, later Technical Director and shortly after the turn faithfully as vice president before he withdrew more and more.

In a newspaper interview reported his former FCM teammate Wolfgang Seguin that Abraham has severed all contacts 1 FC Magdeburg since 1990 ( People's Voice Magdeburg 7 May 2009).
