Wolfgang Frey

Wolfgang Frey ( born August 14, 1942 in Rechberghausen ) is a German botanist and university professor, retired His botanical author abbreviation is " W.Frey ".

Life and work

Frey studied botany, zoology and physiological chemistry at the University of Tübingen. He was from 1978 to 1981 professor of botany at the University of Giessen. Since 1981 he has been at the Institute of Systematic Botany and Plant Geography, Free University of Berlin.

His main research interests are:

• Vegetation of the Near East
• Geography, sociology, ecology and evolution of tropical rain forest mosses
• Structure, adaptation and survival strategies in vegetation units ( Central Europe)
• Diversity, adaptation and survival strategies of Bryoflora südhemisphärischer temperate rainforests
