Wolfgang Fürniß

Wolfgang Fürniß ( born July 8, 1944 in Heidelberg ) is a German politician ( CDU).

Biography

Fürniß studied from 1966 to 1971 Political science, English and history at the University of Heidelberg. He was a student member of the Young Union. Upon completion of his clerkship study in Baden with his second state examination in 1973, he was until 1984 in the service of the State of Baden -Wuerttemberg. He worked for Roman Herzog and Lothar Späth. 1975 to 1984 he was also a council member of the CDU faction in Wiesloch.

From 1984 to 1992 he was mayor of Wiesloch. Subsequently, he was General Manager for the global structure of SAP AG in Walldorf, Germany. 1997 doctorate Fürniß. In 1998, he ran unsuccessfully for the post of Mayor of the City of Heidelberg, where he Wolfgang Lachenauer ( " Heidelberger " ) and the incumbent Beate Weber ( SPD) was defeated in the first round.

He was appointed to the cabinet as Minister of Economics by Manfred Stolpe to Brandenburg in 1999. During his time as Minister of Economics he came under other headlines on major projects such as the chip factory in Frankfurt ( Oder) in the public. In 2002, he resigned from his ministerial post after he had received from a major investor from the United Arab Emirates, a private loan of one million U.S. dollars.
