Wolfgang Rolff (2009)

Wolfgang Rolff ( born December 26, 1959 in Lamstedt ) is a German football coach and former football player.

Career

Player

Wolfgang Rolff began his playing career with TSV Lamstedt before he came to the OSC Bremerhaven 1978. In 1980 he moved to SC Fortuna Köln, another two years later for Hamburger SV, with whom he won the 1983 European Cup Winners ' Cup and the German Cup. After four years there, he transferred to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, where he won the UEFA Cup in 1988 as a team captain. Further stations of his playing career were Racing Strasbourg, KFC Uerdingen 05, Karlsruher SC and the first FC Cologne. The last club of his playing career was again the SC Fortuna Köln, where he continued his career with a total of 356 first-and 126 second division operations ended in 1996.

He also took part in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico as well as in the European Championships in 1984 in France and 1988 in Germany. He played a total of 37 caps for Germany. One of his greatest achievements in the national jersey was guarding the French playmaker Michel Platini in the World Cup semi-finals in Mexico in 1986.

Coach

Wolfgang Rolff began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the 1996/97 season at Hamburger SV. His first job as head coach he had but in the 1997/98 season at second division SV Meppen, whose relegation to the Regionalliga could not prevent. After only one season, he was again assistant coach, this time at VfB Stuttgart, where he was also briefly served as interim coach. In November 2000 he joined again a position as assistant coach, this time at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, before he took over the Kuwaiti national team for the season 2001/ 02. He worked there until October 2002. Since 1 July 2004, Wolfgang Rolff assistant coach at Werder Bremen. On 20 May 2010 Werder Bremen announced that the contract will be extended to 2012. Was notified on 21 May 2012 that the contract was extended until June 30, 2014.

After Werder Bremen separated from his head coach Thomas Schaaf on May 15, 2013 Wolfgang Rolff took over as interim coach with Matthias Hönerbach limited for the last remaining game of the season the management of the league. On May 24, 2013 were known that Werder Bremen have also separated from him, Hönerbach and goalkeeper coach Michael Kraft.

Since February 1, 2014 he is assistant coach of the national team of Azerbaijan.

Comments

In the city of Stade he owned a shop for sports articles, which has now been taken over by his nephew.

Rolff is married and has a son.
