Wolfgang Schivelbusch

Wolfgang Schivelbusch (* November 26, 1941 in Berlin ) is a German journalist and historian.

Schivelbusch studied in Frankfurt am Main, literature, sociology and philosophy. Since 1973 he lives in New York and Berlin. He is known primarily for its history of mentalities works. In 2003 he was honored by the Academy of Arts in Berlin with the Heinrich Mann Prize.

For his 1977 published book on the history of rail travel in 1978 he was awarded the German Prize for the essay. 2005 Schivelbusch was awarded the Science Award of Aby Warburg Foundation. In 2013 he received the Lessing Prize of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg
