Wolfgang Schneiderhan (violinist)

Wolfgang Eduard Schneiderhan ( born May 28, 1915 in Vienna, † 18 May 2002 ibid ) was one of the most important Austrian violin virtuoso and concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

Life

Schneiderhan occurred in 1920 at the age of five years as a " child prodigy " on. 1922-28 he studied in Pisek at Otakar Ševčík, is considered the founder of Czech- Viennese violin school, also in 1925 with Julius Winkler in Vienna.

From 1933 to 1937 he was concertmaster of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. In 1937 he was appointed concertmaster of the Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera, but was only after the "Anschluss " of Austria due to the consequent resignation of his predecessor Ricardo Odnoposoff in the fall of 1938, concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic are, where he served until 1950. Schneiderhan was married to the soprano Irmgard Seefried and is the father of actress Mona Seefried. The former Inspector General of the Bundeswehr Wolfgang Schneiderhan is the son of a cousin of the violinist. Moreover, it is worth noting that his older brother Walt ( h) ( 1901-1978 ), also was an important violinist, who also studied at Ševčík and for many years was leader of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
